Hello! I’m Nigel Dacre.
I am a media executive, writer and journalist, with over 45 years of experience in the media industry. I have held senior leadership roles in TV, journalism and digital organisations.
I was a TV journalist for 24 years, at BBC News and then ITN. I worked for ITN from 1982-2002 – and was the Editor of ITV News (in charge of all news programmes on ITV, including Lunchtime News, Evening News and News at Ten). In 2001, I was also put in charge of the ITN News Channel.
I led the news coverage of major events, including the death of Princess Diana, the Dunblane massacre, wars in Kosovo and Afghanistan, the 9/11 attack, and the 1997 and 2001 general elections.
Since leaving ITN, I have been CEO, MD or Chair of five media organisations – and have been involved in the launch and management of several high-profile media ventures, including Teachers TV, Local TV, and Centenary News.
I worked for Ten Alps plc (now Zinc Media) for four years from 2003-2007 – as the CEO of Teachers TV and MD of Ten Alps Digital.
I was Chair of the Local TV Network (LTVN) from 2013-2015, and a Director of Notts TV from 2012-2016.
I am currently Chair of two UK media companies – the TV transmission company, Comux UK, and the live streaming company, Inclusive Digital. I am also a jury chair for the RTS News and Current Affairs Awards.
On the writing side, I write The News Angle Substack newsletter, and I edit a monthly magazine (the ITN 1955 Club Newsletter) for former ITN staff about ITN history and TV news. I write articles and columns on a range of media subjects, including journalism, TV News and digital trends.
I was made a Fellow of the Royal Television Society in 2002.
